Just over 61 hours ago, the BBC's top news presenter Clive Myrie told viewers of the BBC's Six O'Clock News: “Just to be very clear — we here at BBC News are editorially independent when reporting on the corporation and we only learnt about his arrest and the charges when the rest of the media did on Monday”
Yesterday it was revealed the BBC News Chief Executive Officer Deborah Turness knew. DG Tim Davie said “We had a very restricted list of names in the very small group of people at the centre. When it comes to news, there was one name on it, the CEO of news, Deborah Turness. She isn’t involved editorially in the reporting of the story.”
And it's clear that the previous chair, Dame Elan Closs Stephens, was in that 'very small group'.
Can we expect some corrections from BBC Verify, Ms Turness' contribution to BBC journalism ?
Yes. I thought it was interesting that Katie Razzall's online piece hasn't been updated in light of the new information.
