At last - confirmation from inside the BBC that this exemplar of transparency has a highly-paid operative ensuring that the published minutes of its Board proceedings are information-lite.....
Phil Harrold has been minding BBC minutes since 2009. This email comes from an internal exchange of 13th October 2020. On 4th October 2020, The Sunday Times said Bashir had shown faked bank statements to Earl Spencer, under the headline: “BBC journalist Martin Bashir ‘misled Diana’s brother’ to secure bombshell interview.”
On 19th October 2020, the BBC released some Bashir-related documents to investigative journalist Andy Webb. Andy only had time to include a reference to the release, without details, in his documentary "Diana: The Truth Behind the Interview" which aired on Channel 4 on 21st October. Just after, Andy told Press Gazette that the BBC’s response to his request for a right of reply to the claims in the documentary and the “quite separate FoI document dump” arrived just 20 minutes apart.
