Map making

There've been more changes in the way the BBC manages staff in England in recent years than to the tangled pieces of crystal in the crusted chandelier that hangs over the NHS.

Now Director of Nations, Rhodri Talfan Davies has redrawn the map again, replacing Mercia, Wessex  12 previous managerial areas with six much bigger ones.

Of the twelve existing managers, three have already been fast tracked through to new roles, leaving an anxious nine chasing three permanent jobs.

There's also a move to an old school commissioning/production split, with Chris Burns commissioning and a new vacancy for a Director of Production for BBC Local.

To balance the books, the posts of Director England and News Controller England close.  Declan Wilson, current Controller, gets to mind 'investigations' for a while. The judge in Cliff Richard's successful case against the the BBC said of Mr Wilson's appearance as a witness in his role as North of England bureau chief “various aspects of his evidence were unsatisfactory, some particularly unsatisfactory: the totality of his evidence needs to be approached with caution”.
