When Tony Hall rejoined the BBC as Director General in 2013, he set a target of doubling its global audience to 500m by 2022. (In 2020, he doubled it again, setting a target of 1 billion by the end of 2029)
Last year, when the figure was reported as 489m, the current DG Tim Davie said the BBC was 'well on target' to hit 500m in its centenary year. Sadly, figures revealed last week say the total is up 1%, to 492m. Maybe they can have another go in November/December....
