BBC Chief Content Officer Charlotte Moore has lighted upon Kate Phillips as interim Controller of BBC1, a role she's bringing back permanently. Interim, because, of course, there should be a proper selection procedure, ideally with BAME candidates and a BAME presence on the interview panel.
Kate (Shrewsbury High School and BA Politics, Bristol University) started in television as a runner on The Big Breakfast; tasks included cleaning a presenter’s loo each morning. At school she'd created a 6th form entertainment entitled "A Day In The Life Of TV". Since then she's made her reputation with formats and shiny floor shows - she overlapped with Tim Davie at Worldwide, selling Strictly around the globe. On the downside, she's recommissioned Mrs Brown's Boys more than once.
