Having a laugh

A job ad, briefly published then withdrawn from News UK's website, has given away some clues to plans for a UK 'news' channel from the Murdoch enterprise. They were looking for a series producer for a 'daily factual entertainment show', to be delivered both on 'traditional tv' and online.

The Guardian believes the 'channel' will only be 'on-air' in weekday evening peaktime, with possibly three shows.  We can guess that two will be opinion heavy news commentary, but it's brave of anyone to look for a daily entertainment show in the UK, a Holy Grail often sought but never found. We've never managed to match smart presenters with the serious writing and production investment required to deliver five days a week, in the way that Johnny Carson, Jay Leno, David Letterman, Jon Stewart and many more have done over the years in the States.  Does Rebekah have a presenter lined up ? Is she going to exploit burgeoning young talent Chris Evans, languishing on Virgin Radio ?
