BBC Global News has to walk a tightrope threaded with razor blades to deliver sponsored programmes to raise money and pad out its 24-hour tv news service. It's now created a new role in an attempt to protect its broadcasts from the charge that its open to bought messages - a Content Compliance Editor, BBC Storyworks Programme Partnerships.
Below is the full introduction to this impossible role - a blend of piety, corporate blah-blah and marketing speak. Steer clear.
BBC StoryWorks is the commercial content studio of BBC Global News. We work with brands to create inspiring and engaging stories and digital executions, connecting and elevating them to a global audience. We work alongside our BBC Global News colleagues in Sales, Editorial, Legal and Marketing, generating content-led revenue that funds the journalism and distribution of BBC News around the world.
Programme Partnerships tells the stories that make a difference but don’t always make the headlines. By developing partnerships with some of the most influential organisations and associations, we identify the innovation, ambition and impact of the transformative endeavours shaping our world today. Through the creative and production values of BBC StoryWorks we offer our partners the chance to bring their experience and expertise to life, today.
This is a new position, helping to ensure our commercial content is of the highest quality, effective, and adheres to the BBC’s rigorous editorial, advertising and sponsorship guidelines.
