The BBC's new drive for more diversity has a Trump-ian element. In search of something 'bigly' they've trumpeting a figure of £100m on 'diverse' programming. It's not new money; it's over three years; and it's something Charlotte Moore's commissioners should be doing anyway, sitting on annual content spend of £1.7bn.
The more important move is to require production companies to demonstrate that their teams meet a new 20% diversity target before they get a BBC commission, starting in April next year. It's not yet clear how this target is composed (is it BAME plus disability ?). But there'll be a real chase on now to get talented BAME staff in place, inside and outside the BBC, over the next nine months....
