Executive action

The BBC has finally got round to advertising for a new editor of Today on Radio 4, 90 days after Sarah Sands announced her resignation.

When last advertised (internally only) it was described as Editor Today, and external Sarah arrived. Now it's officially open to all, and billed as Executive Editor, a title so far unknown in the radio end of BBC News. Indeed the job description has been lifted from a tv template, talking about working with a Production Executive to make programmes. At Today, you're lucky to get a PA.

Requirements have gone a bit Sam Smith: "They will be tasked with maximising the impact of Today journalism (code for managing with fewer reporters), increasing the listening time of existing listeners (are you keeping the puzzle and nature notes or what ?) and attracting new audiences."
