Gap analysis

Commercial eyebrows will be raised. The coronavirus epidemic's financial impact on the BBC is a mere £125m, according to Managing Director Bob Shennan. That's just over 3% of last year's public service broadcasting spend at the BBC, of £4,076,000.  In that year, the Corporation made savings of £153m.

To close the gap, Bob says there's a review of capital projects, overheads and technology. There's a six month general pay freeze - one year for 'Senior Leaders'; and a six month delay on looking at bonuses on the commercial side. There's a recruitment freeze, unless you can prove the job is 'service-critical'. And the BBC will smile upon requests for unpaid leave. Equally volunteers who'd like to move part-time are welcome. any enforced changes to roles.nology.

Lord Hall has said there may need to be cuts to programmes as well, but there's no word if the £125m also requires News to deliver job cuts of 450; discussions about that went on hold just after the lockdown.
