The BBC needs to get on the front foot soon, otherwise we have a grim year ahead. Coming soon: the results of the equal pay tribunal case brought by Samira Ahmed; the arrival of policy editor Lewis Goodall at Newsnight, with Tories gathering to pull his wings off; a continuing series of ministerial reshuffles and announcements without appearances on Today on Radio 4; more details of how the BBC proposes to test over-75s to see if they're on Pension Credit and thus able to maintain a free licence; more details of how un-entitled over-75s will be encouraged to stump up from June; fighting a Tory-led debate about de-criminalising non-payment of the licence fee overall.
The re-invention of the iPlayer will have to be fast and spectacular if it's the only new offering from the Corporation in 2020.
