Look, mate, we're IN Europe and you don't have a choice.
The BBC has adopted a Libdem position for the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest. We're taking part, but the public vote on a UK entrant - in the form of You Decide since 2016 - has been dropped. Instead, so far unnamed executives at BBC Studios will choose our contestant and the song with the help of BMG, a record label and publisher of German/Japanese and American history.
This would seem to push responsibility on to BMG UK's President, Alistair Norbury, a former lawyer who's had experience with Bryan Ferry, Texas, and James; personal tastes include PJ Harvey and The Editors.
BMG's involvement has been met with some approval: one commenter said new input was vital "otherwise it will be another 80's song chosen by a 60-year-old BBC exec who thinks retro camp is a winner".
