This year's Royal Television Society Cambridge Convention offers more keynotes than a Casio CDP-S100, so perhaps it's not surprising that spinners for BBC DG Lord Hall have released passages from his Thursday closing session to the Daily Mail and Broadcast today.
His message - that there's a second wave of disruption coming in tv streaming and subscription services - seems to be based on reasonable economics. If the 11m+ UK Netflix subscribers get fed-up with the US-chlorinated-tv-diet of their £12-a-month subscriptions, they may cash that in for a cluster of cheaper options. Lord Hall must be hoping Britbox is in there; and that a souped-up iPlayer gets a resurgence of interest with year-long catch-up.
