Change of tack

It's surely time for a change of strategy for BBC1 and BBC2. Outside of news, and up until 9pm, there are now so many low-tariff shows with repetitive themes that it's no wonder 18-34s are making different choices, making their own schedules with YouTube, Netflix and Amazon Prime. BBC1 and BBC2 in daytime look and feel like really boring satellite channels.

ITV(1) has cornered the tv-as-cheap-chat-show market, with Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women. The BBC has to find something better, richer, more rewarding, and drop endless Homes Under The Hammer. Frankly oldies like me would prefer a little daytime horse racing and some good Open University black and white stuff - but that's not really the answer.

Any reasonable analysis of YouTube consumption shows you that around 50% is good bits of 'old tv'. Perhaps if the BBC combined the budget it's wasting on trying to make vertical videos of 2 minutes that might, one day, go 'viral', with the daytime budget, something better might emerge.
