Baby talk

Is this the board-in-waiting of the emerging Super Indie Beebie Ceebie Proddies ?  Nathalie Humphreys and Mark Freeland are already effectively joint-managers of in-house BBC tv production; now Dr Anna Mallett, of BBC Studios and Post-Production, has been added to the mix, charged with transforming their operation "to a more commercial model".

Brainy Anna has previously worked on how business should be done with BBC Worldwide, and on digital tv distribution strategy. The Studios experience is a little more mixed; there was a venture into post-production in Charlotte Street, which failed; and the move back to Television Centre from Elstree has had to be delayed by two years. On the plus side, a general shortage of tv studios for hire in and around London is gradually pushing more work Elstree's way.
  • 1340 Update: Staff organ Ariel has a wrinkle not obvious from the original press release. Dr Mallett is stepping down from S&PP: "Plans for the future leadership of the company are currently being finalised and will be announced shortly. In the meantime, S&PP's COO David Conway will take the lead."
