Digestion trouble

Absolutely no reason this should come up in Rona Fairhead's DCMS Select Committee interview next week - but husband Tom is having an Archers plotline issue in Essex, ancient seat of the Fairhead lineage, which is making news.

His company, Gent Fairhead, owns Bradwell Quarry, near Braintree, and the nearby old airfield at Rivenhall. Four years ago, despite many local objections, Gent Fairhead won planning permission to build a multi-purpose plant to handle 835,000 tonnes of industrial and commercial waste, including an anaerobic digestion plant, as made famous by the BBC Radio 4 soap. The whole operation is planning to offer back 33 megawatts of electricity to the National Grid.

Now the company is coming forward with more detailed operational proposals - there's talk of 400 lorries a day - but also wants to put back construction to 2017.
