When I read that Radio 4's Tweet of the Day was "going global", I got the wrong end of the stick.
What's actually happening is that the series on birdsong is going to allow itself to feature feathered creatures from right around the world from the next run, starting in September.
I initially thought it might be heading for an outing on BBC World Service, as Lord Hall seeks to drive global audiences up to half a billion. Daft. It's far too frivolous for the current worthy-but-dull schedules. The network long ago eschewed music, comedy and drama, and when it does stray from news and current affairs, you get ripsnorters like The Grapes of Wrath Revisited, currently on hard rotation, for light relief.
Perhaps candidates for the new/re-invented role of Controller, World Service English, will be asked to muse on a little more "knicker-showing" in the future. If it's alright for BBC2....
