Radio chums will be interested to know that Liam Fogarty, the former managing editor of BBC Radio Merseyside, and once BBC Radio's local government correspondent, came second in Liverpool's mayoral elections, behind Labour council leader Joe Anderson.
Liam, brother of Radio 5Live's Shelagh, Everton fan and pub quiz know-all, has been pushing for a big city Mayor for Liverpool since he left Auntie in 2006, and stood as an independent. Anderson had 8,448 votes, Fogarty got 8,200, beating the Liberal Democrat Richard Kemp on 6,200 votes.
