Tuesday 15th May was a grim night for Piers Morgan. His CNN chat show attracted just 39,000 US viewers aged 25-54 - "the key demo". 39,000 is less than a full Goodison Park.
It was the night that network audiences are "swept" to determine figures for the month, which will set their advertising rates - so the big networks always make sure they've got something good to offer. NBC had "America's Got Talent"; ABC had "Dancing with the Stars" - their version of "Strictly Come Dancing", complete with Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and, on the floor, Welsh songstress Katherine Jenkins. Between them, they picked up some 39 million viewers - leaving CNN with a 15 year low in prime time.
