There is discussion of a paper called "Alternative Funding Strategy For International News", which is in gestation, and aimed eventually for the Trust. Strategic minds might have expected such a paper to have been ready way before Mark Thompson offered to take World Service off the hands of the FCO in the licence-fee negotiations.
And there is the revelation that the BBC World Service Trust is to be renamed BBC Media Action, and will have a "revised mission". The word "smaller" may have been left out.
- Friday 12 August Update: Peter Horrocks, as well as being the BBC's director of Global News, is chair of the World Service Trust trustees, and assures me "The charity has grown significantly in recent years and I expect it to grow further". Here's the income chart from the 2009/10 annual review..
