I'd hoped to get this information together in time for his leaving party last week, but now I offer late confirmation that rock god Mark "Biff" Byford, former DDG of the BBC, and rock god Peter Rodney "Biff" Byford, lead vocalist of UK metal monsters, Saxon, might possibly be related.
Mark was born in Castleford; Peter was born in Honley, less than 24 miles away. That's no proof of anything, but Richard Byford, unofficial monitor of Byford genealogy, believes that most Byfords can be traced back, not to Yorkshire, but to the Essex/Hertfordshire border in the 15/16th Century. This Essex link might fit better with the rock'n'roll gene that has developed over the years. Now, has anyone heard Mark sing ?
