A sharper month of May than normal in the radio world. Tonight, with thermals under their dj's and party frocks, the glitterati will gather for the Sony Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel. Expect some empty spaces on news and judges tables, as important ones stay away to cover news of a new government. Expect some tricky moments for Chris Evans, hosting the event from his new perch at breakfast on Radio 2. Sibling station 6Music, marked "Do Not Resuscitate" by Tory-minded strategists at the BBC, will pick up a range of awards. If it doesn't, the crowd could get noisy. Let's also hope Nihal picks up some sort of gong for the Asian Network.
Then we move to the latest RAJAR quarterly listening figures (released to the stations on Wednesday, and the public, with spin, on Thursday 13 May). Will 6Music tip a million ?
On Saturday 22 May, Love6music are having another try at a protest outside Broadcasting House in London, after the first, rather low-impact go at the end of March.
And then, on May 25 (Queen's Speech day) the BBC Trust closes its public consultation on the strategy review paper, "Putting Quality First".
