There's usually an unfamiliar name that surfaces thanks to the Sony Radio awards - and leads to a career change. This year it could be 38-year-old Frances Finn, currently mid-morning host at BBC Radio Nottingham , who last night beat Eddie Mair, Nick Ferrari, Adrian Durham and Jon Gaunt to the title Speech Radio Personality of the Year.
It's been a busy year or so for Mrs Finn - in August, she was seriously hurt when her Kawasaki ZX-6R motorbike crashed into a Mercedes outside the Daybrook Fish Bar, but like a pro, she Twitter-ed throughout her seven-day stay in hospital, and she was back on air after a two month break.
Before that, in May 2008, she participated in a Christian healing event, and according to a Youtube favourite, was cured of have one leg shorter than the other. Like all successful BBC broadcasters, she incurred the wrath of the Daily Mail in 2007, for a joke which offended some Muslims.
She likes real ale, tennis, snowboarding and playing the keyboards. Does London (or perhaps Salford) beckon ?
