The BBC drive to conquer the USA continues with a raft of 1600 hours of old and newish documentaries now available ad-free to subcribers to bbc.com. One dollar a week and you can see House of Maxwell, Al Fayed: Predator at Harrods, Mariupol: The People's Story, and A Very Royal Crisis: Countdown to Abdication. (This must confuse US subscribers to BBC Select, billed as the streaming home of BBC documentaries, available for $5.99 a month)
Our Deborah leads the press release: “More people than ever are coming to BBC.com for news they can trust. Our paid subscribers will now have an even more rewarding premium experience, with the BBC’s best documentaries at their fingertips.”
No word of subscriber numbers, but "Over the past 12 months, BBC.com has averaged 60 million monthly US visitors, with September marking a record-breaking 77 million—surpassing the previous peak set during the 2020 U.S. election."
