....and, with a little nudge from tradingaswdr, we have minutes from the BBC Board's Wales subcommittee from March, meeting in Merthyr Tydfil College.
Big dog in attendance was Director of Nations, Rhodri Talfan Davies, so his notes are probably most revealing:
The BBC and Ofcom are committed to FM radio til 2030, so it will presumably figure in Charter renewal negotiations. In the most recent audience figures, 26.6% of all UK listening is still done via AM and FM transmitters. By the by, Tesla, which dropped AM frequencies from its car radios in 2023, is not planning to have 'radios' at all in its newest models, relying on apps entirely.
Meanwhile, still on Rhodri's patch, BBC Local are looking for a new jingle package, with a new Sonic Logo.
The successful package will incorporate a wholly original and memorable sonic logo which is instantly uplifting and warm. All tracks will reference this logo – some very explicitly (e.g. News), others more
subtly. Our station names vary from BBC Essex to BBC Hereford & Worcester – they vary by length of placename and some do not include the word ‘radio’ in their title. We suggest, but not insist, that the logo is built around ‘BBC’ with a creative solution allowing space for stations to voice or sing the station name. This will form a crucial part of the pitching process.
