Reputations

The BBC's rationale for selling back the unbroadcast Gaza: Doctors Under Attack to Ben De Pear's Basement Films is so muddled as to be incredible. "We have come to the conclusion that broadcasting this material risked creating a perception of partiality that would not meet the high standards that the public rightly expect of the BBC."

Basement Films believes the film was cleared for transmission at the start of the year; yesterday's BBC statement specifically denies that.  Perhaps BBC Verify can help.

This week's move has more to do with reputation. Ben De Pear has said Tim Davie is taking the editorial decisions himself, and shouldn't, because he's a "P.R.man". Was Tim irritated that one of the film's directors had described Israel as a 'rogue state' on the Today programme ?  Should he have been ?
