Impairment

BBC America, held in joint custody between BBC Studios and AMC Networks, is worth a lot less than it used to be.

The Q2 financial report from AMC says it's recorded a "a $29 million long-lived asset impairment charge at BBC America, a joint venture with BBC Studios."

"The Company performed a recoverability test and determined that the carrying amount of the BBCA asset group exceeded its fair value, therefore an impairment charge of $29 million was recorded for identifiable intangible assets and other long-lived assets, which is included in Impairment and other charges in the condensed consolidated statement of income (loss) within the Domestic Operations operating segment."

In February, AMC reduced the value of the joint venture by $42.4 million.

In March 2021, the BBC side noted a £44m impairment in the channel's value.

In 2014, AMC bought 49.9% of BBC America for $200m.
