Yanklish

The Americanisation of BBC News continues apace. Last night's news bulletin on the World Tonight, Radio 4's most staid offering, featured North America Business Correspondent Erin Delmore on new checks on Boeing 737 planes. "Some 26 hundred airplanes" were involved, she said. Later, she referred to an accident which had killed "Three hundred forty-six people".

She means, of course, "Two thousand six hundred aeroplanes" and "Three hundred and forty-six people".
