If the BBC has some internal dashboard for total audience calculations, it's still not sharing it with the general public.
So, for the England v Switzerland game, they report overnight figures of 13.6m across the match proper on BBC1. That's an average; the peak was 16.8m (presumably produced by Dads shouting, "Come here mother, it's gone to penalties...").
We're told the match was streamed 8.9m times across the BBC iPlayer, and those watching via the BBC Sport website and app. That's likely to count as 8.9m individual decisions, but how many dipped in and out, or lost signal and started again ?
Then the BBC describes a further 5.3m 'following the match online'. In the UK only, or around the world ?
Taking all the highest numbers, that's a nice round 31 million, or 46% per cent of the UK population; can that be right ?
