The appointment of 'national' non-executives to the BBC Board is in the hands of the Government of the day. The new non-exec representing Wales is Michael Plaut, formerly Chair of CBI Wales, awarded the OBE in 2019 for services to business and entrepreneurship, who chaired Building a More Prosperous Wales, a report for the UK Government on the Welsh economy. He is Chair of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and a Governor of the University of South Wales.
Michael Hugo James Plaut (MBA Marketing, City University) has made much of his money from hotels. He runs Northmace & Hendon, started by his father, Rudi. Northmace and Hendon claim to have invented the 'hospitality tray', and supply irons, hairdryers, coathangers and luggage racks; Duck Island supplies "luxury toiletries for hotels and washrooms".
