Tonight's Question Time features Nigel Farage (37 appearances), Piers Morgan (27 appearances), Wes Streeting (10 appearances), Damian Hinds (4 appearances), Rose Hudson-Wilkin, Bishop of Dover, (second appearance).
Who determines who appears ? Currently Nicolai Gentchev, Director of Current Affairs at the production company Mentorn Media is Executive Producer ("I engage with political parties and opinion formers to produce moments which shape the national conversation". Linkedin), together with series editor Gerry Gay. In previous careers both Nicolai and Gerry worked in news for BBC Scotland. The executive editor for the BBC is Daniel Maxwell, who has a twin-pronged career editing political shows for BBC Scotland.
Over all during an election period sits Ric Bailey, Chief Advisor, Politics, keeper of the BBC's Election Guidelines, in play from today. He has used this data sheet from Ofcom to calculate a guide to percentage of appearances/time per party, across the UK and individually for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. If News CEO Deborah Turness is going to be dramatic about transparency, perhaps she'll publish his cribsheet.
By my rough calculation, at 5 guests per show, and five shows left before polling day (including tonight), Reform UK, at 10% of popular support, will get one more Question Time seat after Farage.
