The BBC online team fell for an April Fool cooked up with the help of a real archivist at Blenheim Palace, that Woodstock north of Oxford held a small music festival over 200 years ago, and it might have been an inspiration for Woodstock 1969, New York State.
The original piece has now been corrected. It was written by a recently-appointed graduate of the BBC's Journalism Apprentice Scheme, awarded certificates in person by Tim Davie. More senior people will have given it a place amongst the wide-ranging content of BBC News.
