A year of legal to-ing and fro-ing has ended with TalkTV paying full legal costs and substantial damages to the charity Migrants Organise. Mike Graham, self-appointed voice of common sense, and his channel have had to apologise, accepting there was no factual basis for the claim that Migrants Organise "facilitated fraud and terrorism", were "funded to help illegal migration" and were "human traffickers".
The comments were broadcast on 10 June 2022 and repeated on Twitter until 13 June 2022. The legal team for Migrants Organise were Zillur Rahman of Rahman Lowe and Mark Henderson of Doughty Street Chambers.
Talk TV, part of News UK, said “We are happy to clarify that it was not our or Mike’s intention to make those allegations and we accept there wasn’t a factual basis for doing so... we should have offered the charity the opportunity to come on and respond”.
It's Mr Graham's second entanglement with Migrants Organise. In July last year he had to apologise to Mind after questioning why it had provided funding to Migrants Organise, suggesting the money had gone to paying migrants’ legal fees. Mind called the allegation “plain wrong” and said the donations were for “specific work to support mental health”.
