Lord Hall, very politely, says BBC DG Tim Davie has got it wrong on two and half things.
In an interview with Roger Bolton for his podcast Beeb Watch, the former DG says his successor is wrong about cutting local radio: "Myself, I would not be trying to trim back what makes local radio so special, ie the amount of programming done at local level”.
And wrong to let News merge two news channels into one: "I think the BBC should be investing more in its news operation to be honest with you".
On orchestras and singers, he's more opaque: "You've got to stand back and say what is the infrastructure of classical music we want in this country. And how do we support it? And I think the BBC's role in that is absolutely critical.”
