Small domestic

As commenters here have noted, there was no UK presenter or news team ready for the UK stream to be unblocked and cascade over viewers anxious for further news of Raab's Resignation. So viewers got an old-school World take to replace Nicky Campbell; with Nancy Kacungira outside Parliament, with world-facing pol corr Rob Watson and mighty Express dep pol ed whatsisname holding the rickety fort.

A right Royally triumph ?

  1. They were warned. During the run-up to the News Channel-World 'merge' (aka World takeover), several experienced News staff asked how the UK opts could possibly be properly staffed, not just from a technical point of view but editorially. The complacent reply from Naja Neilsen was 'we have the ability to switch the signal' and 'newsroom staff can quickly be switched to new stories.' Both true enough, if a bit patronising to an audience exclusively made up of News staff, but that's not the issue. You need presenters and, above all, editorial control. Both were lacking this morning. There was much self-congratulation a few days ago when the first day or two of the went off more or less ok. Bit premature.
