Meanwhile...in the United States, Disney+ is conducting a live laboratory experiment with Dancing With The Stars, licenced by the BBC and shifted from its previous linear slot on ABC, to live streaming.
This has narrowed the show's potential audience to 44 million or so Disney+ subscribers in the USA and Canada. We may learn more about take-up with Disney latest earnings report, due later today. On ABC, the show was reaching between 4.5m and 5.5m in the overnights, with a full stack of linear ads, but allegedly losing a younger audience. The streamed version is all live, for two hours, and has no ads - scene shifting is harder than it used to be.
This season has its first deaf contestant - actor Daniel Durant, who this week did a 'jazz' dance to Depeche Mode's Enjoy The Silence, with the track cut out entirely for a portion of the routine. Who'd have thought it ?
