There could be some rock chucking at the Geological Society in London next Tuesday, when the Voice of the Listener and Viewer holds its Autumn Conference.
Keynote speaker is man-of-the-moment Rhodri Talfan Davies, BBC Director of Nations. In the chair for his session, Helen Boaden, former BBC Director of News and Radio. Helen first joined the BBC at Radio Leeds, and, in 2011, was ultimately responsible for BBC local radio in England. December 2011, under DG Mark Thompson, was when the BBC first proposed stations should share afternoon programming, have a single programme in the evening, and share late night programming. 280 jobs were to go. By the end of January 2012, BBC Chairman Lord Patten instructed that the cuts be reduced, and afternoon programming was saved.
Also lurking amongst the stones during the conference, former BBC News executives Mark Damazer, Roger Mosey and Richard Ayre, who will doubtless be available to coach Rhodri going forward....
