Meanwhile, can someone construct a piece on Jeremy Hunt's options ? We talk about cuts to public spending, but even a freeze now suggests jobs will go, because departmental budgets assumed 3% pay rises, which are not holding. What happens to the pay of nurses, teachers, etc ? Can any infrastructure project be safe or sensible now ? On Tuesday we get the next monthly CPI guide to inflation - is the Bank of England's forecast of an 11% peak still valid ?
