Oops

One can't help thinking it's slightly clumsy of the BBC to lose Jane Garvey and Fi Glover to Times Radio.

In a world where the BBC cares so obviously about podcast success, it's lost one of its earlier and most successful creations, rarely out of the Sounds Top Ten most-downloaded over 250 episodes, alongside the venerable Archers, Desert Island Discs and In Our Time. The teasing wit and self-deprecation was always there in the duo, and, despite often being recorded outdoors in the windswept Broadcasting House piazza, there's a genuine warmth. The show has evolved from a bald attempt to plug other BBC products into a place to discuss books, pets, other podcasts and the perimenopause, with topics driven by both major events and intelligent emails from the audience around the world.

Fi and Jane will present an afternoon show of two hours, Monday to Thursday, squeezing space between existing Times Radio presenters, which suggests the signing is an additional investment for the network. I reckon they are their own best senior producers, which saves a bit. Let's hope News UK gives them their head - and I dare them to name the new podcast Unfortunately.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Moore, trying to combine BBC Head of Content with Head of Radio, is not paying enough attention.
