The Great British Lack of Journalistic Scrutiny is at record levels when you combine events involved the British monarchy with tv viewing figure predictions.
Yesterday's blah-blah, from an 'industry expert' working for a previously-unheard-of site promoting VPNs, was that 4.1bn would view the Queen's funeral on Monday. It was carried, without challenge, by the Metro and the Mail. In the world of me-too journalism, it has now been repeated by The Daily Star, The Daily Mirror, The Daily Express, Yahoo News, joe.co.uk, msn.com and ladbible.
4.1bn is half the world's population. Even our biggest tv moments in the UK - the 1966 World Cup Final, and Princess Diana's funeral only got to 32m - less than half the UK population. Why on earth would anyone predict such nonsense - and why on earth would sensible journalists repeat it ?
