An unsurprising consequence of age: more funerals to attend. Today, time to send off two BBC colleagues, Clive Ferguson and Moira Cox. Many similarities - both work-hard, play-hard people at their peak, hugely encouraging of new joiners and young talent, and magnificently dismissive of the capabilities of those above them, occasionally to their faces. They lived in different spheres of my life, but provided me with great company and endlessly amusing tales about their different bits of BBC News. I wonder if they got on (in theory both were part of Newsgathering as they retired); I suspect not, but now I'll never know.
