The US concept of 'sales enablement', part of management speakak since around 2017, has reached the BBC. It's based on the extraordinary idea that if your sales reps understand what your product does, they might sell more.
The first 'product' to get this treatment is BBC News, as the organisation obsessively seeks to make money from it in the United States. The BBC in New York wants to appoint a Vice President, Ad Sales, Marketing and Enablement, and seeks to recruit someone fully familiar with the world of Sunshire Desserts "with proven experience finding creative ways to do more with less".
The successful candidate will "galvanize BBC sales and external sales team, educating on BBC offerings including pushing top priorities and distilling information into critical selling points. This is across BBC News platforms, TV, Digital, Audio services."
They'll also "lead the creation of sales marketing collateral positioning all BBC business unit assets in a positive light." Either with or without a comma. And "maintain a pulse on the media industry". Single-handedly keeping it alive.
