Congratulations to Danielle Dwyer, elevated to lead Newsbeat and news on The Asian Network as they move to Birmingham, at the behest of BBC Director General Tim Davie.
Unsurprisingly, she's a Brummie, who joined Newsbeat as an Assistant Editor in July 2020, a full eight months before the move was announced. She went to Heart of England School, twixt Solihull and Coventry, and then to study politics and modern history at Manchester University. She joined Caters News Agency in Birmingham in 2006, and then covered the Midlands for PA from 2007 to 2012 (including the story of the Stoke woman who threw a cat into a bin). The move to the BBC was working for 'Digital England', the concept whereby English local BBC sites are edited and shaped in Birmingham.
Lots of talk this week about @BBCNewsbeat moving to Brum, but a little bit of Newsbeat is already here 🙋🏻♀️

If you’ve read anything we’ve written lately (of course you have) there’s a good chance it was commissioned or edited from my Kings Heath kitchen table
