The Times notes that the BBC's Group General Counsel Sarah Jones has had a 4% pay increase, to somewhere above £280k. She reports to Group Managing Director, Bob Shennan. whose pay rose 2% to £310k.
Sarah (Sutton High School and BA Law, Lincoln College, Oxford) got the job in January 2012, with a salary of £188k, so she's more than kept pace with inflation, as the BBC headcount as fallen. She also has a declared, yet not public, interest disclosure - one wonders if this is still her role as Deputy District Judge on the South Eastern circuit. This requires a minimum of 15 days (paid) work a year in Magistrate's Courts.
Sarah was in place to manage a deal with Lord MacAlpine after Newsnight's mess-up, but has also been in place for the failed defence against Sir Cliff Richard, the final settlement with Carrie Gracie, and the clanging loss against Samira Ahmed. She'll have spent much of this year sweeping up after Martin Bashir, with various compensation deals to those he traduced.
