The Telegraph believes that former BBC graphic designer Matt Weissler has been offered £750,000 in compensation, after the suppression of his whistleblowing, and effective firing by former DG Lord Hall.
It was Weissler who created fake bank statements at the behest of Martin Bashir back in 1995, used by Bashir to activate the concerns of Earl Spencer, and effect an introduction to Princess Diana. Lord Hall assured the BBC Governors that, while Bashir was 'honest and honourable', Weissler would never work for the BBC again.
The sum on offer is presumably as a result of a 'legal discussion' proffered by current DG Tim Davie in May this year: “We’ll engage in that discussion because clearly we were at fault.” Matt had worked for the BBC from 1986 to 1995, went fully freelance, and found there was a ban on his re-employment. It looks like the offer is based around estimated missing earnings of £30,000 a year.
