Hedgefund millionaire Sir Paul Marshall, 61 (Merchant Taylors' Northwood and St John's, Oxford) is said to have put £10m into GB News, and an unknown amount into UnHerd, a website that seeks to "push back against the herd mentality with new and bold thinking". It has published 5 articles by Sir Paul.
In 2017, Sir Paul set up 'independent' group, Prosperity UK, which featured the thinking of members of the Legatum Institute. Legatum, the parent company, has also invested in GB News. Prosperity UK has invested much thinking on the Northern Ireland protocol, now working so smoothly.
Sir Paul is new-ish to Twitter - he's endorsed Esther McVey on the curtailment of HS2, adding "All we are left with is spending over £100bn so a very small number of people can travel 10 minutes faster from London to Birmingham. Possibly biggest waste of money in British history". He's retweeted GB News contributor and self-defined comedian Konstantin Kisin; and pieces critical of pandemic forecaster Professor Neil Ferguson - "Left wing scientists are far from omniscient".
The Today programme presenter Justin Webb has contributed 43 articles to UnHerd, the latest headlined "Barack Obama was a false hope - Did the self-satisfied president lay the path for Trumpism ?" I wonder if that was commissioned, or offered.
