It was interesting to see US climate envoy John Kerry doing the heavy diplomatic lifting with 100 days or less to go to COP26. You'd expect Johnson to be doing this, but no doubt he's out of his diplomatic and scientific depth. There was an expectation that the UK would appoint a knowledgeable heavyweight to run COP - think Chris Patten or John Gummer - but instead they bumped Sharma across from the Business Dept. The UK has a good story to tell about tackling climate change, but is failing to tell it. There must be real fears that COP26 will turn into another national embarrassment.
