An occasional series. I think that when a series has been 'sold' to BBC commissioners with podcasts in mind, you're more likely to hear unexplained music under the presenter links.
Take "After Trump", by James Naughtie, blessed with the expertise of two long-serving producers. I suspect they were reluctant to gild the lily of Naughtie's Doric-inflected burr, but had to go with the modern flow.
Giles: "OK, string quartet stabs under this bit..."
Jonathan: "Surely not again, Giles ?"
Giles: "Jonathan, we've had this out too many times before..."
