Things were going so well....

Coming up to 24 hours of full-on "W1A"-style palaver at BBC News. Plain-speaking Director Fran Unsworth takes her senior lieutenants through the updated guidelines designed to ensure that all employees in her division are complying with outward demonstrations of impartiality, at least in choosing which demonstrations to attend.

She gaily regrets the insertion of the words 'virtue-signalling' in the text, but then somehow, gets on a hook about Pride marches. Attending such events is not a problem, she (or someone close to her) says, but it might be different if it were a 'protest' on, say, 'trans issues'.

Cue much fluttering in the dovecot. This morning DG Tim Davie has had to calm things down. Fran may be scowling at some of her lieutenants for a while.
