The Telegraph, now thwarted in its promotion of Charles Moore as the next Chairman of the BBC, has found a ready supply of entertaining second-choices.
As well as the previously-mooted Nicky, Baroness Morgan, Amber Rudd and George Osborne, it offers Sir Robbie Gibb, Trevor Phillips and Sir Peter Bazalgette.
The Telegraph says Sir Robbie was already being 'prepped' as a BBC non-executive, to give backbone to Lord Moore. Among the current non-execs, Ashley Steel is over her allotted time; Tanni Grey Thompson and senior director Sir Nicholas Serota are up for replacement from April 2021, as is Scottish representative Steve Morrison. Elan Closs Stephens, covering Wales, is the longest serving trustee/non-exec and should have been replaced in July.
